Homemade Sausage and Cheese Pizza

Ingredients
  • 2 1⁄4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup pizza sauce (or tomato sauce)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 200 g Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1⁄4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

    Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

    Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles as it browns. Cook for 6-8 minutes or until fully cooked. Set aside.

    Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.

    Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll out the dough into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter. Place it on parchment paper for easy transfer.

    Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the sauce, followed by the cooked sausage crumbles. Add Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic powder for extra flavor.

    Carefully transfer the pizza (using the parchment paper) to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

    Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool slightly, and garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Slice and enjoy!
