Ingredients
  • 500 g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp butter (For Gravy)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (For Gravy)
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth (For Gravy)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (For Gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (For Gravy)
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and quartered (Mashed Popatoes)
  • 1/4 cup butter (Mashed Potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup milk (Mashed Potatoes)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
How To Do
  • 1.
Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and parsley. Mix until just combined (do not overwork the meat).
  • 2.
Form the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into small, even-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  • 3.
Cook the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and brown them on all sides, about 8-10 minutes total. Once browned, remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  • 4.
Make a Roux: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • 5.
Add the Liquid: Gradually whisk in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir continuously to avoid lumps. Once the gravy starts to thicken, add the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and season with salt and pepper.
  • 6.
Simmer the Meatballs: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for 10-15 minutes, until fully cooked and the gravy is rich and smooth.
  • 7.
Boil the Potatoes: In a large pot, boil the peeled and quartered potatoes in salted water for 15-20 minutes until tender.
  • 8.
Mash the Potatoes: Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 9.
Serve the meatballs with the rich gravy on top, alongside a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes. Garnish with chopped parsley, and enjoy!
